A Divine Celebration of Faith, Devotion, and Culture
The Bihar Foundation Netherlands (BFN) beautifully celebrated Chhath Puja 2025 on 25th to 28th October in the Netherlands, upholding the centuries-old tradition of devotion to Surya Dev (the Sun God) and Chhathi Maiya. The main rituals and gatherings took place at the Lord Shiva Hindu Temple, Amsterdam (Hoogoorddreef 79, 1101 BB Amsterdam), where devotees from across the country joined in heartfelt reverence.

Day 1 – Nahay Khay (25th October 2025)
The celebration began with Nahay Khay, marking the ritual purification that opens Chhath Puja. Devotees bathed early in the morning, cleaned their homes, and prepared a simple, sattvik meal made of bottle gourd, rice, and chana dal. This act symbolizes purity and dedication, setting the spiritual tone for the coming days.
Day 2 – Kharna (26th October 2025)
The second day, Kharna, was observed with fasting throughout the day, followed by the evening preparation of kheer, roti, and fruits. Devotees gathered at the temple to offer prayers, share the prasad, and seek blessings. The serene environment of Amsterdam was filled with bhajans, devotion, and a sense of spiritual calm.
Day 3 – Sandhya Arghya (27th October 2025)
On the third day, devotees offered arghya (offering) to the setting sun. The temple premises were decorated with diyas, flowers, and rangoli, radiating divine energy. Dressed in traditional attire, men and women carried bamboo baskets filled with fruits, thekua, sugarcane, and coconuts to offer to Surya Dev. The reflection of glowing diyas in the water created a mesmerizing sight that brought a touch of Bihar to the heart of the Netherlands.
Day 4 – Usha Arghya (28th October 2025)
The final day marked the most sacred ritual — Usha Arghya, the offering to the rising sun. Devotees arrived before dawn to perform prayers, concluding the four-day festival with gratitude and faith. As the first rays of sunlight graced the sky, chants of “Chhathi Maiya ki jai” filled the air, symbolizing hope, renewal, and peace.

Faith Beyond Borders
Chhath Puja is more than a religious observance — it’s a bridge connecting generations and cultures. Through this celebration, the Bihar Foundation Netherlands once again proved how traditions can flourish anywhere when carried in the hearts of devoted people. The event fostered community bonding and preserved the essence of Bihar’s culture thousands of miles away from home.
A Collective Effort of Love and Devotion
The grand success of this event was made possible by the dedicated efforts of the Bihar Foundation Netherlands team, volunteers, and devotees. Every arrangement — from the prasad preparation to ritual coordination — reflected meticulous planning and devotion.
Conclusion
The Chhath Puja 2025 celebration in the Netherlands stood as a symbol of unity, tradition, and unwavering faith. It reminded everyone that while distances may separate us from our homeland, devotion and culture continue to bind us together.
As the diyas slowly dimmed at dawn on 28th October, they left behind glowing hearts, spiritual fulfillment, and a promise to celebrate again — with the same devotion and togetherness in the coming years.
